After-school action for teens in Boston: Youth get busy protecting and improving the environment in their communities.

High school students spent Friday afternoons watching portions of "An Inconvenient Truth" and initiated group discussions on the message and its impact.

Teens at the Boston Latin School (BLS) have transformed the concept of actions projects by moving from simply showing a movie after school to creating a vital organization. They formed the Youth Climate Action Network (Youth C.A.N) – a student-led initiative at the BLS. Their mission is to take effective action to address the global warming problem in their communities and beyond.

"BLS Youth CAN has been an experience I will never forget. As part of the Youth Summit Planning Committee, I have learned a lot about global warming, but I’ve also learned about creating a big event like the Youth Summit without any previous experience. I’ll admit, it has been a lot of work, but all of it has taught me important skills I will use later in life." - From 10th grade student

This extremely well organized group of students identified eight initiatives on which they have been focusing. The focus areas include school-based programs such as bus-idling programs and reducing the use of plastic bottles to large city-wide events such as the Annual Youth Climate Action Network Global Warming Youth Summit.
